Kathmandu – Speaker Devraj Ghimire’s meeting with Yuan Cha, a member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the Chengdu Municipal Committee, concluded with discussions on various bilateral topics such as economic, trade, political, social, and religious exchanges. The meeting, held on Monday in Kathmandu, emphasized the importance of China-Nepal relations and the mutual commitment to support Nepal’s development and prosperity through bilateral political engagements.

Speaker Ghimire expressed gratitude for China’s continued support and highlighted that since President Xi Jinping’s visit in 2019, Nepal has been focusing on strengthening ties at the higher levels. He praised China’s contributions, describing Nepal as a beautiful and attractive nation and expressed gratitude for the smaller contributions that have also contributed to its prosperity. Ghimire further acknowledged the significance of the constitution-making process and the progress achieved in Nepal’s stability and development under the previous government of K.P. Sharma Oli, particularly in the development of the transit agreement and the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung railway project.

The historical ties between China and Nepal, connected by the Himalayas, rivers, and shared culture, were emphasized by Speaker Ghimire, who noted that a considerable portion of Nepal’s tourists come from China, boosting Nepal’s tourism industry.

During a previous visit to China, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, the Chairman of the National Assembly, also made a month-long tour, expanding parliamentary exchanges.

Speaker Ghimire expressed delight over China’s economic prowess, stating that Nepal sees China as a model for food security and plans to learn from its successful programs. He announced the initiation of a program to establish Nepal as a self-sufficient nation in terms of food, taking inspiration from China.

Yuan Cha, the CPC leader, revealed that he came to Nepal on the instructions of Chinese President Xi Jinping, with the intention of providing support to Nepal in achieving food self-sufficiency. He announced a monetary aid of 80 lakh yuan, equivalent to 14 crore Nepali rupees, during his visit.

Leader Yuan also extended an invitation to Speaker Ghimire to visit China, further strengthening the bond between the two nations.

In conclusion, the meeting highlighted the significance of the bilateral relationship between Nepal and China, and the mutual commitment to enhance cooperation in various sectors for the development and prosperity of both nations.
